Cygames isn’t well known here, but in Japan, it’s a developer that has made a name for itself by producing several huge hits on mobile devices. The studio has been so successful that it has spawned several anime series and console games of various quality.

One of the better anime adaptations to come from the mobile game is “Princess Connect! Re: Dive.” The series has a silly fantasy vibe similar to “KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!” That should be no surprise seeing as how both shows are directed by Takaomi Kanasaki.

The show follows members of the Gourmet Guild — Pecorine, Karyl, Kokkoro and Yuuki — and their bizarre adventures through a fantasy world. Each good-natured character has a murky backstory that viewers discover as they watch the series. It’s fun way to adapt an open-ended mobile game and make it understandable for newcomers. To its credit, it’s an anime that doesn’t feel like it started as a game.

Interesting enough though, fans who have come to know about “Princess Connect!” through the anime now have a chance to play the source material thanks in party to Crunchyroll Games. The title is different from the anime but players begin in the land of Astrum and play alongside the characters from the anime. Yuito Kimura, executive director and producer of the game, said it “was developed a a fusion of anime and RPG elements, providing users with at the innovative experience of ‘playing through an anime.’”

Players can preregister for Jewels, an in-game resource, and the more people join up, the bigger the reward. It caps at 1,500 Jewels for more than 200,000 pre-registrations.
